La la land

(That's Shanghai)
Updated: 2006-12-12 09:29

After experiencing some trouble at its previous location, La La Land has moved to a new home on Tongren Lu.

The intimate new setting is modern and stylish, with a grown-up atmosphere accentuated by lots of chrome and mirrors. The club's layout is reminiscent of Mint, offering squishy seating around the perimeter of a mini dance floor. On the latter, you can carefully strut your stuff to hand-picked house anthems. As you've gathered by now, La La Land is very small indeed; it even feels slightly claustrophobic on busy nights. But if you're the type who loves to be in the center of a crowd, you'll enjoy the venue, along with some good cocktails and quality music.

The no "working girls" policy makes this a smart party spot, with a classier vibe than many of the bars on this stretch. Perhaps the success of La La Land will spur an era of more sophisticated venues along Tongren Lu...
