Break with tradition

(That's Shanghai )
Updated: 2006-12-11 10:42

Many of the top clubs in Shanghai are oversized, over-the-top and over-rated. Not so Level 2, situated above the newly-opened Naked Cow restaurant, This venue breaks with tradition, offering an intimate setting and not an international DJ in sight.

The club's space is elongated, with plush red cushions running along the sides of the room. There's not much light, but the waitresses dressed in school uniforms stand out in the surroundings. What's more, they are quite friendly. Out of doors, the narrow terrace provides a breezy alternative, and is a good spot to unwind with a few beers (RMB 40-60). L2 seems well-positioned to replace Guandii as the new hip hop club of choice (featuring music by Eminem, Beyonc¨¦ and Ja Rule). It may take more time to get there; however, the few extra kilometers in traveling time is rewarded with a comfortable space and a sophisticated crowd.
