Lost Heaven unravels the mysteries surrounding many exotic cuisines. This stylish eatery serves a variety of dishes native to Yunnan Province, including that of several of the region's ethnic tribes (Dai and Miao, for example).

The three-story restaurant boasts an intimate ambiance with dim red lights casting a glow on dark wooden floors. The menu, too, is well-presented, and features photos of each dish for those unfamiliar with the offerings. We began our meal with Mandalay fish cake (RMB 60), which was gently fried, retaining the softness of the meat inside. Our instant favorite, Dai Tribe chicken with green onions (RMB 60), offered a tantalizing mix of the sweet and spicy.

Overall, the fare here retains a certain subtlety, even in the face of copious amounts of garlic, onion and chili; flavors are intense, but nuanced and appealing. In short, heavenly.
