The grand Christmas tree lighting ceremony early this month marked the beginning of Xintiandi's Christmas and 2007 New Year celebrations. The year-end festive season is packed with events and decorations.

The entire Xintiandi South Block Plaza has been magically turned into a sparkling and cozy "living room," adorned with a huge welcoming carpet, a warm fireplace, larger-than-life book shelves and a 14-meter-high Christmas tree decorated with glittering stars and colorful ornaments.

"Rich in history and culture, Xintiandi has already become the 'living room' for the worldly in this cosmopolitan city," says Jeannie Cheung, senior manager of Shanghai Xintiandi marketing and promotions. "We hope these decorations can warm people up in this chilly weather."

Additionally, a few European-style street performances will entertain crowds.

The Australian seven-member band "The Peppers" will be delightfully dressed as nutcracker soldiers, trotting out and dazzling people with their fully choreographed patrol.

The elegant stilt duo "Maneuver," clad in whimsical costumes, will offer spectators an engaging, playful and interactive experience.

Another surprise comes from "Aerial Angels." The famous Australian acrobatics performance team will blow you away with their graceful, enigmatic, and death-defying mid-air feats.

The performers will mingle with the elated crowd, creating a warm festive scene and ambience every week from Thursdays to Sundays. Lucky visitors will be photographed with them.

On New Year's Eve, the fashion hub will host a grand 2007 Xintiandi Countdown Party, a traditional gala event, conveying best wishes to the people of Shanghai.

Through December 25, Shanghai residents can log on to www.xintiandi.com and browse the Christmas gifts it has prepared - Artemide's lamp, Shanghai Trio's scarf and movie tickets from UME International Cineplex. Register and vote for your favorite gift, and you may receive one of them.
