Talented actors

Bishoff has directed the musical in several cities across North America as well as in London's West End. This is the first time he has directed the play in a different language but he says he enjoys "every minute of the rehearsal."

The director worked closely with the actors and interpreter to translate the script and score, to make sure that each line means exactly what it does in the original.

Four talented actors, Lin Yilun, Yu Yi, Wen Yang and Ma Qingli, will play numerous characters.

Lin, a singer/actor, will perform 16 roles, including those of a single young man, a father, an old man, a murderer and a priest.

"It is a great challenge for all of us," he says. "For the most part, the director keeps the pace of the play fast and furious. The scores and scripts almost drove me crazy and we had to communicate with the director in different languages. Sometimes I even dreamed I was singing the theme song," says Lin.

He hopes through the actors' versatile performances, audiences will find that love is still something be cherished, despite "a lot of troubles and embarrassments."

Since its debut in 1996 at the Westside Theater in New York, the phenomenal musical has staged more than 4,000 shows in over 400 cities worldwide, including London, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Milan, Sydney, Buenos Aires, Seoul and Hong Kong, grossing over US$100 million.
