Off-Broadway's longest-running musical, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," hits Shanghai next week in Mandarin, celebrating the modern-day mating game, writes Michelle Zhang.

See if any of these dating- and mating-game stories interest you:Betty is a very, very busy woman. She is so busy that she has no time or patience to date. When she and Stan first met, she hoped they could go straight to the "third date."

Julie herself is not that great looking but she wants to find a really cool guy. Jason himself is not that handsome but he wants to find a really beautiful woman. At first they don't find anything in common, but all of a sudden ...

Mickey's parents have carefully prepared the engagement dinner for their beloved son, only to learn that he and his girlfriend just broke up.

A woman who desperately wants to become the bride always turns out to be the bridesmaid.

A witty young man becomes a dull father in a few years' time.

Sometimes, a funeral can also be a romantic first date ...

If any of these stories sounds familiar or intriguing, here's the show for you: Off-Broadway's longest-running musical, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," will hit Shanghai next week and for the first time, it will be performed in Mandarin.

From December 5 to 31, the Shanghai Drama Arts Center will stage 32 shows of this love-happy hit musical.

Acclaimed as "the most entertaining show on or off Broadway," the hilarious musical comedy celebrates the modern-day mating game and explores the joys of dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws.

The musical revue is composed of short scenes that begin with the creation of Adam and Eve, then it fast-forwards through history to the present day when a set of people are preparing to go on a date.

The first part of the show explores the trials and tribulations of dating and being single, as well as what people lose when they get married. The second half deals with marriage, families and kids, as well as love among older people.

"It is a play for people both young and old," says director Joel Bishoff. "Many audiences identified with the scenes and teased each other during the show - 'Look! That's you!'

"It features great scores and various kinds of music from rock 'n' roll to country, from jazz to tango."
