A number of parties held over the summer have grown increasingly popular through autumn, and as we head into the winter party season look for events such as Freaklub, NOIShanghai, and Pause to offer interesting and eclectic options to the big club experience.

Freaklub9(LOgO)

At first glance Freaklub may look like a branch or continuation of the summer's Micro parties and with DJs Tootekool and Micrometropolis at the helm it at least shares a common minimal sound. But that is where the similarities end as the DJs along with visual artist Exit provide a new and unique backdrop for Wednesday nights where musical exploration is celebrated through live mixing of electronic music and acoustic instruments played together. Previous guests include trumpeter JQ Whitcom, guitarist Hassan, and Dijielirium on the digeridoo. This Wednesday violinist Pangfei joins Freaklub bringing his new jazz sound from the stages of this summer's Montreal Jazz Festival right here to Shanghai.

NOIShanghai VI (Yuyintang/Live)

A 2-day affair spanning Nov 23-24. This is the 6th NOIShanghai in a series of popular experimental musical performances by local and international artists. Organizers and local noise band "Torturing Nurse" have managed to secure a diverse lineup for the show which includes internationally acclaimed cellist and vocalist Audrey Chen (Baltimore, USA), saxophonist and sound artist Alessandro Bosetti (Berlin, Germany), and sound artist and composer Ben Houge. Expect the unexpected at NOIShanghai as the artists and composers intertwine improvisation and interpretation throughout the course of the performance.
Noise this Thursday at Yu Yin Tang Warehouse, and this Friday at Livebar.

Pause V (Tanghui)

The fifth Pause event is set to start in the early Saturday afternoon, and if previous incarnations of Pause provide any indication of the outcome, this should be one to remember. The Pause series of events has been one of the most successful in terms of striking a vibey chord through a cross-section of the club/nightlife and creative landscapes of Shanghai. The inclusion of art-in-process and art-on-display give Pause events a positively innovative and imaginative tangent. Pause represents a chance for local artists to display work to an audience that might not normally visit an art gallery or exhibition. It's also a chance for DJs to play music that they might not normally play in a club setting. And for the audience, Pause represents an opportunity to put everything on hold -- on "pause", and party down with new and old friends in an afternoon environment.
