Sound systems for the iPod

AltecLansing inMotion im7

Ushering in a whole new era of out-loud audio for iPods, the inMotion iM7 delivers full-bodied sound that rivals traditional home stereo systems. Its sleek, compact design goes where you go and mobility is encouraged via the iM7's long-lasting battery mode. Alternatively, plug the unit into a nearby outlet for AC power. The iPod recharges while you listen. The dockable iPod is secured within a universal cradle that gracefully opens and recesses with the touch of a finger. The iM7's impressive sound comes from its advanced neodymium drivers and tweeters, plus a built-in subwoofer. It's capable of powering small parties, and the RF remote enables users to change songs without shoving your guests out of the way. However the system doesn¨ªt have an LCD or LED on the unit, nor does it have a remote to indicate volume or tone-control levels. RMB 2,100

Klipsch iGroove

The Klipsch iGroove is a convenient all-in-one digital music system that delivers decent sound quality. The compact and stylish iGroove features dual 2.5-inch fiber-composite woofers in a ported enclosure, dual 1-inch MicroTractrix tweeters and a built-in iPod dock. The iGroove accepts and charges all dockable iPods. It also works with the Nano, Shuffle, a variety of MP3 players and other audio devices using the included J-cup adapter and 3.5mm stereo audio input. It's also simple to operate. The IR handheld remote (included) handles full system control, while the integrated handle makes carting it around a breeze. The only drawback is that it only runs with an AC adapter, not batteries. RMB 2,300

JBL Radial

JBL Radial features a highly efficient design that reproduces genuine, lifelike sound. The radial dock can send iPod photos and videos to a TV monitor through a Video Out port, and is compatible with most docking iPods via a universal dock. A stereo jack allows users to connect a variety of other audio devices, such as the iPod shuffle or satellite radio. The wireless RF remote control operates the unit from up to 20 feet, and offers full access to the iPod, enabling you to change tracks, browse libraries, adjust settings, and scroll through extras. The power button is inconveniently located on the back of the unit though, and there's no power button on the remote either. A volume indicator is also absent. RMB 2,400

Apple iPod Hi-Fi

The iPod Hi-Fi delivers crystal-clear sound in a clean, compact design. At 17 inches wide, 7 inches deep, and less than 7 inches tall, this one-piece speaker is ideal for kitchens or bedrooms. The Hi-Fi comes with adapters for all iPod models that have dock connectors and will work with almost any portable MP3 player with a 3.5-mm audio stereo output. There is no video line-out, headphone jack, or dock-connector output. The Hi-Fi's weight and size take away from its portability. Also, Apple iPod Hi-Fi sounds only marginally better that its competitors, but costs much more. RMB 3,600
