A prize winning graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, Chinese-Australian born pianist Kristian Chong has established himself as one of Australia's leading younger pianists. He has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout Australia and the UK, and also in China, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, and Zimbabwe. As concerto soloist he has appeared on numerous occasions with the Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland, Sydney Symphony Orchestras, and various orchestras in the UK and China under conductors such as Graham Abbott, Werner Andreas Albert, Andrey Boreyko, Nicholas Braithwaite, Tuomas Oillia, Marcus Stenz, Nicholas Smith, Arvo Volmer and Marco Zuccarini. He has recorded and broadcast for Australian & American radio and television, and has appeared for Musica Viva Australia. His many competition successes include winning the Symphony Australia Young Performers Award (keyboard) and the Australian National Piano Award, as well as being a major prizewinner in the 3rd Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition. He was also named as the 2002 South Australian Emerging Artist of the year.

Performance highlights have included a televised performance of the Rachmaninoff 3rd piano concerto with the Sydney Symphony, the Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini with the Beijing International Festival Orchestra (IFC), the Britten Piano Concerto with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the complete Op.32 Rachmaninoff Preludes to critical acclaim in Australia, England and Zimbabwe. A highly sought after chamber musician, he has performed with the Australian Chamber Soloists, the Flinders Quartet, and recently formed 'duoDUAL' - a duo with acclaimed Adelaide violinist Niki Vasilakis.

Currently Kristian is based in London, where he recently completed his Masters Degree at the Royal Academy of Music with pianists Christopher Elton and Piers Lane. He was a recipient of the coveted Dip. RAM, the academy¡¯s highest performing accolade, and many other awards including the most outstanding returning student and best final recital. In Australia he studied at the the University of Melbourne with Stephen McIntyre, a student of Michelangi and in addition he has worked with musicians such as Yonty Solomon, Martin Roscoe, Stephen Hough and Boris Berman. Kristian was also on the piano faculty at Kings College, University of London.

Upcoming engagements include Beethoven's Emperor Concerto in the UK, chamber and solo recitals in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, London and Hong Kong, and a return recital tour to Zimbabwe. He has also recently recorded two works towards a CD of clarinet and piano music by the Australian composer Matthew Hindson for Naxos.
