Vitality and imagination translated into visions can be seen at Today Art Museum, where selected works of recent fine arts graduates from all over the country are being shown in an ongoing exhibit.

Ranging from oil and ink paintings, sculptures, prints and synthetic material works, the pieces give visitors a glimpse of the young artists' unconstrained boldness and creativity.

Running for six months, the exhibit also highlights 53 works among the contributors gathered from around the country; five received gold prizes, 15 earned silver prizes and 33 took home bronze ones.

Winning a gold prize was the oil painting "Hamburger", created by Tang Shi, a graduate from the Fine Arts Institute Affiliated to the Tsinghua University. A dim light is cast on to a table, and a hamburger sits atop a little pad on the middle of the table, surrounded by six men who scrutinize it with confused facial expressions.

With their ages range from young to middle age; their backgrounds vary from educated professional to uneducated commoner, and with their psychological state from serious to cynical, they all express confusion about the identity of the Western fast food. The painting depicts the conflict between Western and Eastern cultures.

Most of the exhibit's ink works are huge-some 4 metres high and 2 metres wide-hanging from the ceiling to the ground on the wall. Traditional Chinese techniques like fine brushwork, splash-ink landscapes, colourful ink and wash paintings are frequently spotted.

A spectrum of colourful hues and tones are used in the oil paintings to relay the artists' thoughts: Dark and heavy tones show the quiet atmosphere of small town in one piece; fantastic pigments are poured to display an underwater world in another; abstract black-and-grey blocks and lines convey a work of a highway.

The sculpture works are arranged in the halls and corridors. With realistic and exaggerated styles; they record real images from life or created visions from the imagination.
