Bands to compete for cash and fame
Updated: 2006-08-23 13:31
For those of us craving some originality on the music scene, Tanghui will be
host to Battle of the Bands this September. Expect to see a gathering of 16
quality unsigned live acts all competing for 50,000rmb worth of cash and prizes,
not to mention the invaluable benefits of exposure of this kind. A night perhaps
not for the weak hearted, Tanghui Bar is renowned for its powerful sounds and
devotion to all things rock.
Good news for budding bands; there's still time to get a piece of the action
and be in with a chance of competing in this exciting competition. Interested
parties are asked to send a demo CD with 2 original songs before August 23rd to
Morry Morgan at Tanghui (just two days to go - be quick!). One of the
requirements for aspiring bands is that they must be at least half composed of
local Chinese performers. Hopefully this will ensure a balanced fusion of the
talents found within and around the city.
The knock out rounds begin on the weekend of September 16th, lasting four
nights. But expect things to really heat up for the semi-finals on September
28th. However, with the ever growing popularity of rock music amongst urbanites
expect a big turn out every night. The big one though will surely be the final
on September 30th, when the remaining musicians will be competing for the title
of China's freshest up and coming rock band.
Battle of the Bands usually draws huge crowds worldwide, and artists can
expect to gain experience of performing live in venues that usually accommodate
a large proportion of their potential fan base. An opportunity that is perhaps
too good to miss.
