Foreigners have their own map of entertainment in Shanghai, which may differ
from what a native Shanghainese perspective, says Modern Weekly, a newspaper
issued in China's big cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Coming from different backgrounds, expats bring with them a different
perspective, sparking interest in what are everyday occurrences for the
Shanghainese. The longer they stay, the more people of their own country they
find., It then becomes more clear as far as where to go, what to eat, and how to
be entertained. So, following the expats, we can see a different side of
Shanghai.
*Andrew, French
After living in Shanghai for more than 4 years, Andrew still misses his
hometown, Paris. He is not necessarily a fashion fanatic, but Shanghai is too
modern for his own tastes. He feels most comfortable around those similar to
himself, and has subsequently drawn his own Shanghai map.
The small group has about 40 people. The 15th day of every month, they'll
have a party at MINT, on Tongren Road, the owner of which is also French. They
often have lunch in DESLYS, afternoon tea at FACE and dinner in Hong Fangzi.
The biggest difference between Andrew and the local people is his enthusiasm
of art, a characteristic famous to the French. After visiting all the museums
and galleries in Shanghai, Andrew found Shanghai's Moganshan Road, where there
are always new exhibitions.
The curio market on Xizang Road is Andrew's weekend choice.
