Grand Hyatt
Taking sleek chic to new heights in the middle of Wan Chai, Grand Hyatt sets the benchmark for a different kind of luxury. If most of Hong Kong's top hotels are reminiscent of a stay at rich Aunt Martha's mansion, Grand Hyatt is a visit to that cousin who made a fortune on the stock market. More Scandinavia than Asia in atmosphere (but unmistakably Asian in level of service and attention), the blond woods, clean lines, and black-trimmed d¨Ścor in the rooms are offset by the extravagance of a grand lobby and top-floor Club where the Moet flows as far as the views. The hotel's unique location allows knockout views of Hong Kong Island's cityscape, while also being part of it. Rooms ending in 17 are multiple wow-inducers. Grand Hyatt also has a big gym and the city's most beautiful pool and outdoor terrace area, which becomes an alfresco restaurant come sunset. www.hongkong.hyatt.com.

Island Shangri-La
Hong Kong's highest hotel is a regular on the 'world's best' lists. With the city at your feet, the tallest painting in the world in the atrium, and an ultra-cool Rolls Royce Phantom (which costs a cool USD 775,000 and rides like a million) in the driveway ready to chauffeur guests to the airport or anywhere else they fancy, Island Shangri-la is one of the city's brightest five-star stars. Opening the electric curtains with the touch of a bedside button may sound superfluous-until you have to go back to the 'primitivity' of pulling a cord. The hotel enjoys direct access to the luxe Pacific Place shopping center, and a central location next to Hong Kong Park. A new cooperation with Bombardier jets pairs the private jet charter with Rolls Royce transfers and VIP suite accommodation for the ultimate in exclusivity. www.shangri-la.com.
