Guide book to stay at one of Hong Kong's hottest hotels By Robert La Bua (That's Shanghai) Updated: 2006-07-10 16:36 Hong Kong is famous for shipping and shopping, but
there is more to the place than making and spending money-the Chi Lin Nunnery,
for example, where lotus ponds and bonsai make for a refreshing counterpoint to
the bustle of Kowloon and Central. The Museum of Teaware and Man Mo temple (and
its smaller counterparts in Taiping Shan) are also pleasant diversions, as is a
stroll along the antique-shop strip of Hollywood Road by day, or the Avenue of
the Stars after dark, taking in the world-famous cityscape across the harbor.
A big part of the fun of a Hong Kong visit is staying in one of the city's
many excellent hotels, though with occupancy rates hovering at maximum levels
almost year round, getting a room is no easy feat. Hong Kong is home to some of
the best hotels on the planet-here are four favorites.

The Peninsula Long regarded as the best hotel in Hong Kong-if not
the world-The Peninsula is an experience unto itself. South-facing tower rooms
have jaw-dropping views of Hong Kong's architectural landmarks across the
harbor. A fleet of Rolls Royces, in-room mailboxes for the morning paper, and
free in-room internet (surprisingly rare in these ultra-expensive palaces) are
some of the little touches that make The Peninsula one of the world's great
hotel experiences. www.peninsula.com.
InterContinental Grand Stanford Located in the newly
buzzy Tsim Sha Tsui East district, the InterContinental Grand Stanford is
unmistakably American (in a good way)-rooms are roomy, staff is breezy, and
portions in the ever-popular Mistral restaurant are more than ample. A courtesy
shuttle bus runs guests to Nathan Rd and ferries them back at night to this
peaceful haven. www.hongkong.intercontinental.com.
