More and more European readers are turning their attention to Chinese culture, most especially in the form of books focusing on Chinese women. The specialized subject has ranked top on reader's popularity boards several times in European countries.

The French edition of Everlasting Regret by Wang Anyi, published this past February, has already gained great popularity in France. Meanwhile, Chinese Lover by Hong Ying, Chess Girl by Shan Sa, and The Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie near the top of the bestselling list.

Four Reasons for the Attraction:
1. Interest in supposedly Eastern sentiments, as mediated by China.
2. These novels open the door to complex Chinese women. Europeans can see clearly from these books that Asian females are absolutely not as mysterious as they imagined, but are real women with deep and complicated characteristics, just like them.
3. The works vary. Some of them pay more attention to personal emotion, while others focus on touching experiences to attract readers.
4. Readers can see hints of themselves and their lives in the books. For instance, The Little Chinese Seamstress represents local Chinese culture, but is tempted by European culture in the end.
