True to its name, which originates from the Sanskrit word Vihara (monastery), the Bukhara Grill is a lavish three-story sanctuary which rises up out of the Hongmei Lu restaurant circuit.

Its sophisticated yet rustic decor exudes an ambience that exemplifies its reverent philosophy towards food. The dishes at Bukhara pluck their flavors from India's northwest frontier.

For starters, sip an indigenous Indian cocktail, like the Deccan Queen (RMB 55). Named after one of the fastest trains in India, this tipple has a quick and punchy kick. Next, put your foot on the brakes and slowly savor a lamb chop (£¤80) or tuck into a variety of mains: sabz (RMB 50), dahl (RMB 50) and biryani (RMB 40-RMB 55). For something out of the ordinary, try the Tandoori Lobster and family-size naan.

Bukhara also has a lounge with TVs, meaning you can cheer on your favorite sports teams between bites of chicken tikka, and a banquet room fit to hold Monsoon-esque weddings and parties. With authentic food and a philosophy that caters to community, Bukhara is a welcome addition to Gubei's dining scene.
