Bakery: Italian Tomato
(That's Beijing)
Updated: 2006-05-23 10:40

Italian Tomato sounds like just another restaurant that serves pizza and pasta.

Its logo screams tomato sauce a-plenty and, probably, a large spoonful of Parmesan cheese with every item on the menu. But one shouldn't be misled by advertising, however clever.

Italian Tomato is not an Italian restaurant at all; it's a bakery, as is evident as soon as you walk in the door and see the many cakes in the display counter.

False impressions aside, in the spirit of the season, we decided to forgive this new arrival on Hongmei Lu for its transgression. We ordered two cakes: one mango (RMB 24), one banana (RMB 18); they were sour and stale - and that is unforgivable. Obviously we should have paid more attention to the 'display only' sign.

In sum, IT is sending out the wrong message and in return here's ours: Arrivederci.
