New attractions to open in Hong Kong Disneyland (CRI) Updated: 2006-05-19 10:30 Hong Kong Disneyland is scheduled to launch three new attractions early
this summer in its attempts to attract more visitors.
An interview with Bill Ernest, the managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland,
conducted by Hong Kong-based Sing Tao Daily, reveals that three new attractions
will be opened in the park early this summer to bring more fun and excitement to
visitors. Information on the fourth new attraction, to be completed by 2008,
will be released to the public at a later date.
Ernest admits that since its opening last September, the number of visitors
to the park is now a bit smaller than expected. Still, the park has no plans to
lower its original goal of attracting 5.6 million people during its first year
of operation. To further explore the mainland market, Disney will sponsor a
series of TV programs and implement an extensive advertisement campaign this
summer vacation season.
As for patrons' complaints about the park's small size, Ernest responds
by saying that expansion should be according to the growth in the number of
visitors and business development. What they need to add is more fun and
excitement, not just new time-consuming facilities.
Hong Kong Disneyland will also keep up with its brothers in the U.S. and
Japan by organizing special holiday events. Ernest reveals that the park is
preparing a grand Halloween program for this October, with an interesting and
unique design that will be different from Ocean Park's 'Halloween Bash in
October.'
Ernest did not respond directly to questions of whether or not the secret new
fourth attraction will be "It's a Small World," only hinting that it will be
located in the Fantasy Land. "It's a Small World" is routinely located in the
Fantasy Land area, and is a well-received attraction at every other Disneyland
theme park. Riders enjoy diverse song and dance performances by animated figures
as they explore the world in small boats.
