Mamamiya: a cozy restaurant
(That's Shanghai )
Updated: 2006-05-18 10:30

Back in 1975, ABBA unleashed "Mamma Mia" - its bursts of guitar, cheesy synth and dual harmony vocals by Agnetha and Frida topped the charts worldwide. More recently, a stage hit of the same name has wowed audiences from the West End to Broadway. Now, Shanghai has its own, Mamamiya [sic]: not a song, and not a dance; rather, it's a charming and cozy restaurant in outer Hongqiao.

For starters, chow down on their crispy crab cakes (RMB 6). But if you're looking for a one-of-a-kind meal, make your own DIY margherita pizza. Simply choose your toppings (we went with an 8-inch spinach, black olives and Italian ham pie, RMB 47), and pronto you have a delizioso home-cooked pizza. In fact it tasted so good, we just had to have another.

'Mamamiya, here I go again. My, my, how can I resist you?'

Location: 379 Hongsong Lu, by Baizhang Lu
Opening time: Daily 10:30pm-1am. No cards.
Cost for two (excluding drinks): RMB 92
