Vegetarianism now a popular diet (CRI) Updated: 2006-05-17 09:27 Recently, vegetarianism has become more and more popular in China,
especially amongst white-collar workers who prefer food that keeps their body in
shape.
Coinciding with this trend, has been the appearance of numerous
restaurants in Beijing catering to those on a vegetarian diet.
According to the Beijing Morning Post, as a result of the increasing number
of people with adiposis and hypertension, vegetarianism becomes one of the most
favorable diets in China.
A nutritionist from the Beijing Friendship Hospital, Hong Zhongxin, says that
vegetables and fruits are generally good for peoples' health, in addition to
helping fight diseases. But he adds that meat is similarly necessary and that a
balanced diet is the basis of human health and beauty.
