Nine-year-old twin brothers Tristan (in black T-shirt) and Nic
Puehse from the United States perform skateboarding stunts in front of
Shanghai's Jin Mao Tower yesterday. They started skateboarding stunts
training at six and won the skateboarding gold and silver medals at the
California State Gamesin 2004. Their performance will run through
tomorrow.
| Pudong's Jin Mao Tower has added
another feather to its cap by introducing the action sport of skateboarding to
the public during the Labor Day holiday, following the low-altitude parachuting
in 2003 and 2004.
The public can enjoy exciting performances by California state champions Nic
and Tristan Puehse at the lawn in front of the building, the tallest in China's
mainland, at Lujiazui free of charge.
The talented twins, who are nine years old, took the first and second places
in their very first competition in California, the United States in 2004 when
they were only seven years old. Two months later, they skateboarded to gold and
silver at the California State Games.
"Nic and Tristan don't have a coach; they do however, watch videos and local
skateboarding veterans to enhance their skills," said Michael Puehse, the father
of the twins.
Unlike other school kids, Tristan and Nic do not go to school but study at
home taught by their mother.
"They practice skateboarding for three hours every day, five days a week; and
they spend the same amount of time on study," said the father.
Local and national sponsors have been more than willing to have Nic and
Tristan promote their products such as skateboards, sunglasses and sports wear.
The public can catch the two boys perform three times a day at 10am, 1pm and
3pm until May 6.
Jack Lee, marketing manager of Realone-Sports Market Communication &
Consultancy Company, said his firm planned more skateboarding activities in the
future including a theme camp at a skateboarding park in New Jiangwan Town,
Yangpu District, in the summer.
