Beijing Restaurants: Hokkaido mackerel pike

Duo Zuo Japanese buffet restaurant promotes mackerel pike imported from Hokkaido, Japan, which is in season from August to December. The restaurant prepares the fish using various cooking methods, such as steaming, boiling, grilling and roasting. The pike is particularly healthy and nutritious.

The eatery celebrates its 1-year anniversary on Nov 21. Customers born on the same day can present their IDs to get a free birthday cake and braised baby lobster. 5903-7198

Golden chef award

Quanjude's Xicui Lu branch represented the Quanjude Group to receive the China Golden Chef Award 2009 recently in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. Xicui Lu's Quanjude has introduced 120 new dishes over the past three years.

These include wasabi duck chest, bamboo mushroom with abalone and duck soup, sauteed mullet, and dry-fried duck meatball. The Xicui Lu branch also took the top slot at last year's national cooking contest. 9 Xicui Lu, Haidian district. 6823-9011

Productive designs

The restaurant group South Beauty has organized an exhibition showcasing design elements from the group, Audi, SOHO and Exception Clothing Ltd. Titled Design and Productivity, it is backed by the China Academy of Art and the National Art Museum of China. Zhang Lan, chairman of South Beauty, says good design is key to the group' success - from brand name, to ambience, and the creation of new dishes. The exhibition will run until Nov 11 at the National Art Museum of China.

Halloween party

Purple Jade Country Club's food and beverage center will host a Halloween party tonight. The establishment's large lawns and lake will be the site of a battle between humans and "ghosts".
