To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China, a painting and calligraphy exhibition, The Nation will Never Forget, will be held. More than 200 works have been created under the theme Educated Urban Youth Working in Countryside and Mountain Area during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76). Featured artists include Ouyang Zhongshi, calligrapher and professor from Capital Normal University, Feng Yuan, painter and honorary president of the fine arts department of Tsinghua University, Nima Zeren and Lou Shibai, Chinese first-class artist. 10-12 am, July 8; 8:30 am-5 pm, July 9-12 Military Museum of Chinese People's Revolution, 9 Fuxing Lu, Haidian district, Beijing 6536-9518 An exhibition to mark the 88th birthday of the Chinese Communist Party, will display 88 ink and oil works. They have been created over a period of time and in various styles, and depict Chinese leaders such as Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping as well as historical sites related to The Party's history. 9 am-5 pm, until July 5 Military Museum of Chinese People's Revolution, 9 Fuxing Lu, Haidian district 6852-5857, 6686-6114 Cui Zhimo, 76, was trained in both sketching, oil painting and ink art in the early 1950s at the China Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of master painters Lu Fengzi, Huang Binhong, and Pan Tianshou. Cui is well known for his innovative portrayal of snow-capped mountains in southern China, using the jiaomo (dried ink) technique. 9 am-5 pm, until July 7 National Art Museum of China, 1 Wusi Dajie, Dongcheng district 6401-7076 Veteran artist and art connoisseur Su Shishu is holding his solo show of calligraphic works. On view are more than 100 of his selected calligraphic scrolls done in various styles. Born into a Manchu family in Beijing in 1949, Su sought apprenticeships from a couple of master calligraphers, including Aisin Giogro Qigong, in his 40-year-long art career. 9 am-5 pm, until July 6 National Art Museum of China, 1 Wusi Dajie, Dongcheng district 6401-7076 More than 240 ink paintings and calligraphic works by more than 100 artists from across the country are on display.
