Coke bottles the Olympic spirit
By Nie Xin (Shanghai Daily)
Updated: 2008-08-05 17:23 ![]() Theme bottles designed for Coca-Cola's WE8 project are seen in an undated photo. [Photo: sohu.com] Coca-Cola invited Chinese artists and designers to depict what the Beijing Olympic Games mean to them-on a bottle. Now they've done it. Behold! And drink up! The idea behind the eight (the number is lucky in China) bottle-and-music artworks is a collaboration between the East and the West, hence, WE8. Each of the theme bottles has a song by a musician from another country. All eight bottles have been manufactured and filled with Coca-Cola for the Games. Others in the "Healthy World" theme will be available in China this month. Eight Chinese graphic artists and art groups - Xiao Xue, MeWe, Xin Jing, Jiang Hua, Joyn Viscom, Milkxhake, Chen Shaohua and Wang Xu - designed eight aluminum contour bottles. For each limited-edition bottle design -- inspired by themes from the "Coke Side of Life" brand platform -- a popular recording artist from another country has composed a companion song. The alliance of visual artists and musicians from different countries started with eight blank "canvases" - eight aluminum contour bottles and eight upbeat themes for the upcoming Games. |
