The Tibet autonomous region allocated a total of 31.68-million-yuan living allowances to all the low-income families in its six prefectures and Lhasa, news from the regional finance department.

The State Council decided to earmark a lump-sum grant for the needy people in both urban and rural areas of Tibet before the traditional Tibetan Losar (New Year in Tibetan language).

An official with the regional civil affairs department said there are 292,132 local Tibetans qualified for the benefit.

The urban recipients will get 150 yuan ($22.5) each, while every rural resident will obtain 100 yuan. National allowance beneficiaries, rural Party members and retired Party members without pension will be granted 180 yuan each.

All living allowance recipients will get the money prior to the Tibetan Losar.
