Feb 18, 1951: Enlarged meeting of the CPC Central Political Bureau

The Central Political Bureau held an enlarged meeting in mid-February to discuss issues on "three-year preparation and 10-year planning economic development" campaign of propaganda and education for the Korean War, land reform, the suppression of counterrevolutionaries, urban work, rectification and construction of the Party, and work on the united front work.

Feb 18, 1991: Deng Xiaoping talks about developing Pudong

On Feb 18, 1991, Deng Xiaoping visited the construction site of Nanpu Bridge in Shanghai and then listened to the planning report for the economic development of Pudong. He said Shanghai would attract investments if the city paid attention to international practices, and that finance would be the core of a modern economy in Shanghai. Shanghai is the financial center of China, and China's international status in finance relies on Shanghai, he said, asking the city to move with courage and at a faster pace to develop its infrastructure.
