TusHoldings looks to boost 'innovation clusters'

Tus-Holdings Co Ltd, which runs nearly 100 innovation centers, has entered an era of innovation clusters thanks to the development of Internet-related technologies, said Wang Jiwu, president of the company, which has headquarters in Beijing.

Wang made the remarks at the 32nd Annual World Conference of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation, or IASP, which ran from Sept 22 to 25 in Beijing.

Last year, Wang and the Tsinghua University Science Park (TusPark), the company's first innovation center, agreed the concept of innovation clusters.

"We can establish a network of science parks and other innovation centers and, through the network, share resources based on the Internet and big data technologies," he told the conference.

In this way, innovation centers within the network can achieve synergy and boost each other's development, along with other companies in the centers, according to Wang.

TusHoldings now is setting up 16 100-hectare science and technology zones, more than 20 science parks, which each cover an area of 10 to 30 hectares, and 55 incubators, each one covering an area of no more than 1 hectare.

Wang said the company's innovation centers are now operating in almost every part of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and many important areas in the Pearl River Economic Belt.

The company has also established incubators in Hong Kong and the United States to further its internalization.

"Thanks to big data and cloud-computing technologies, it is possible for us to connect the parks or centers," Wang said.

TusHoldings signed a cooperation MOU with a university in Pakistan before the conference, according to Wang.

He said the company plans to build a science park in Pakistan, the first university science park along the Belt and Road, referring to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013.

Wang said the company would also cooperate with countries and regions, including Egypt, to build more science parks abroad, and will operate more than 200 innovation centers by the end of 2016.

This year's IASP world conference attracted nearly 700 managers, researchers and entrepreneurs from global science and technology parks from 48 countries and regions.
