Woman dead after Sanlitun knife attack

A woman and a man were attacked with a sabre-like knife in Sanlitun, a commercial district in downtown Beijing on Thursday with the woman left dead, according to Beijing police authorities.

The suspect, surnamed Gao, 25, from Tonghua, Jilin Province was attacking people randomly at the southern entrance of Sanlitun Pub Street.

A woman from Shandong Province and a French citizen were hurt in the attack and they were soon sent to a nearby hospital, but regretfully the woman died from the wound and the Frenchman is still under treatment.

Gao, the suspect, was put in custody as soon as bystanders called the police.

Now the suspect is under investigation by the Beijing Police Department.
