China will implement a new classification system of jobs with special priority given to green roles as the country pushes environmental sectors of the economy.

The latest version was passed on Wednesday and is set to be ratified soon, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

The new system divides jobs into major groups, 75 sub-categories and 1,481 occupational types. The number of roles is down by 547 from the previous system.

For the first time the classification covers green jobs, which includes environmental protection, low-carbon and recycling sectors.

Yin Weimin, minister of human resources and social security, said the revision will help the country further develop occupational education and improve the quality of skilled workers.

It will also help occupation qualification and reduce red tape in job certification, he added.

The new system will also aid authorities in collecting occupational data and conducting occupation comparisons.
