Global food company, H.J. Heinz, opened a manufacturing base in Foshan, Guangdong province on Tuesday to increase its presence in the Chinese market.

According to the company, the base will be mainly engaged in the production of infant cereals, which have already become Heinz's best seller in terms of market share in China,

"Cereals produced in the base will help meet the increasing demand from Chinese parents for high-quality and safe baby food," said Bernardo Hees, chief executive officer of Heinz.

The 80,000-square meter facility, located in Sanshui district of Foshan, is Heinz's largest infant cereal manufacturing base in the world, increasing the company's daily production output by almost 40 percent in China, the company revealed.

"The operation of the new base will help us to make a sustainable growth in China," Hees said.

Heinz first entered China by setting up a baby food manufacturing base in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong in 1984.
