Police are hunting a man who killed three women and seriously injured two more.
The attacks happened on Tuesday evening at Fangchenggang in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, chinanews.com reported.
The Vietnamese victims were aged between 20 and 40. Police said two died at the scene and the third died in hospital. The two injured are said to be out of danger.
A large number of officers are searching the city for a Chinese man aged around 35 and 1.65 meters tall, according to Wednesday's report.
