A man who sold a house his late father left to him and his brothers for 1 million yuan ($161,016) had to pay more than twice that to repurchase the property.

The man, surnamed Wu, was sued by his three brothers for selling the house without their permission. The court ruled the purchase contract invalid and Wu had to pay the buyer 2.6 million yuan as compensation, Beijing Youth Daily reported Friday.

Haidian District People's Court found that the house is a community property shared by the four brothers.

The man, surnamed Wu, sold it to his colleague Zhang in 2007 for 1 million yuan without agreement from his brothers.

The court ruled that Wu should repay the money Zhang spent on the house and make up for any losses.

Considering soaring housing prices in Beijing in recent years, Wu was ordered to pay Zhang 2.6 million yuan as compensation.
