A former policeman who shot and killed a pregnant woman had his death sentence upheld in an appeal in Guigang, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, by the Guangxi High People's Court on Wednesday morning.

The ex-policeman, Hu Ping, was drunk when he shot the woman and her husband, who ran a rice noodle restaurant, hitting the woman with two bullets and her husband with one in October 2013.

In February, a local intermediate court sentenced Hu to death for intentional homicide and ordered him to pay compensation of 73,324 yuan ($11,835) to the victim’s family.
