Former official sentenced to 15 years for bribery

Xu Yefu, former director of Hubei provincial administration for industry and commerce, was sentenced to 15 years in jail for bribery and illegal possession of ammunition and large amounts of money from unknown sources, according to Hubei provincial discipline inspection authorities.

A total of 200,000 yuan ($31,700) will be confiscated from Xu’s personal assets, according to a ruling by Ezhou city intermediate court in Central China’s Hubei province.

Xu, 56, was convicted of misusing his power to provide benefits for himself and others. He accepted bribes of 3.14 million yuan and HK$9,000 ($1,160).

He failed to explain the source of 3.53 million yuan, $31,000 and HK$29,000, which was obviously more than his legal earnings, according to the court.
