BEIJING - China's highways saw 342 million passengers during the week-long Spring Festival holiday that ended Saturday, up 9.9 percent from last year's holiday, the country's transport authority said Sunday.
According to a statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Transport, major coach stations monitored by the ministry functioned well during the week-long holiday.
He Jianzhong, a spokesman with the ministry, said that transport authorities in China mobilized more than 840,000 coaches to meet passengers' needs during the holiday.
The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, which fell on January 23 this year, is traditionally a time for family reunions in the nation.
