BEIJING - China's top political advisory body spokesman said on Wednesday that if the Taiwan side would jointly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution with the Chinese mainland, that would be helpful to the cross-Straits communication.

Zhao Qizheng, spokesman of the fourth session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) made the remarks at a press conference held before the session which is due to open on Thursday.

The 1911 Revolution was an epoch-making event that had far-reaching consequences for the Chinese people. It overthrew the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the last monarchy in China, ending about 2,000 years of imperial rule in China and marking the start of modern China.

Zhao said CPPCC would organize many celebration activities this year including holding seminars, making documentary, and issuing stamps and commemorative coins.
