5.9-magnitude quake hits Sumatra, Indonesia

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 rocked Aceh province in the northern tip of Sumatra Island on Saturday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.

The quake struck at 18:23 pm Jakarta time (1123 GMT) with the epicenter at 19 km southwest Sinabang of Aceh province and with the depth of 32 km, the agency said.  

About 13 minutes later, an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.0 hit the area, it said.
