China, Russia issue joint statement on int'l issues

MOSCOW - China and Russia issued here on Thursday a joint statement on a broad range of key international issues.

The statement, which came out during Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Russia, is based on a common stand between the two sides on key international issues and pledges concerted efforts to cope with current challenges to ensure sustainable economic development.

In view of the increasing interdependence among various nations, the two sides agreed to consolidate the multilateral and legal basis of international politics, according to the joint statement signed by Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev.

The joint statement focuses on such key points:

Multilateral efforts to meet global challenges; support of the United Nations in playing a central coordinative role in internaitonal affairs, peacekeeping, development promotion and multilateral cooperation; support of the G20's efforts for improving the global economic and financial governance; attachment of great importance to cooperation within the framework of BRICKS; affirmation of achievements of the SCO; further strengthening of cooperation within the China-Russia-India mechanism; support of international anti-terror efforts; efforts to deal with climiate change; support of efforts for a nuclear-free world; promotion of regional peace and stability.
