HULUN BUIR - A senior official has called for advancing spirituality in the country's rural areas.

Li Changchun, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, expressed his views in a written instruction at a two-day meeting that concluded on Wednesday in Hulun Buir city of north Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Promoting spirituality in the countryside is important in order to safeguard harmony and stability in rural society and to meet the people's growing spiritual and cultural needs, Li said.

In response, Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said at the meeting that measures should be carried out to improve rural people's spirituality and living standards.

Efforts should also be made to solve the rural community's practical problems and provide good services to it, he said.

Liu called for intensifying support through policies and funding to ensure the implementation of Li's general concept.
