Liu made the remarks during her inspection tour to the cities of Mianyang, Deyang, Dujiangyan in southwest Sichuan Province from Saturday to Monday.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Mianyang Scientific and Technological Park. The park should further enhance its capabilities by encouraging scientific research institutions, universities and enterprises to innovate, Liu said.

She also urged intensified efforts to accelerate the translation of technological results into real-life productivity, and expanded recruitment of talented individuals.

The park should also expedite the upgrading of traditional industries and develop strategic emerging industries to develop itself into a high-tech hub, Liu said.

During the tour, Liu also visited Beichuan County, which was hit by the 8.0-magnitude earthquake in 2008.

Liu said the province has made significant headway in the post-quake reconstruction of the education, culture, science and technology fields, adding that the province should continue to improve the quality of its education system and promote educational equity.
