Hu urges efforts to promote strategic emerging industries

BEIJING - Chinese President Hu Jintao has urged efforts to promote the development of China's strategic emerging industries and build them into pillar industries.

Fostering the development of strategic emerging industries will have an overall bearing on the country's economic and social development, Hu said during a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday.

He noted that accelerating the development of strategic emerging industries is essential for speeding up the transformation of China's economic development pattern, enhancing the country's international competitiveness and building an innovation-oriented country.
