A man attempting to cross the road suffered a gruesome death after being hit by one car and then dragged by another for 30 kilometers, Rednet.cn reports.

The man, whose identification has not been confirmed, was trying to climb over the barrier on the Jinjiang section of Shenyang-Haikou Expressway in Southeast China's Fujian province on May 15, when he was struck by a fast-moving car, according to a report by traffic police.

The driver stopped to check and call the police, but the victim had been dragged away by a jeep in the next traffic lane after getting a foot stuck in a vent-pipe.

He was later discovered dead after the jeep, which had been unaware of the incident and dragged him 30 kilometers away on the Quanzhou-Xiamen Highway, was hailed down by the driver of a trailing car who spotted the body.

Police are investigating the case.
