One man was shot dead and two others were detained after a suspect allegedly sprayed pepper water at a police officer and tried to grab the officer's gun, the people.com.cn reported on Friday.

Police in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong province, were informed some suspicious persons were in the city's Feiyu hotel around 8 pm on Wednesday.

Upon seeing the police, one suspect surnamed Liang ran into the restroom and started to spray peeper water at the policeman who knocked at the door to question him. Liang was shot dead after trying to grab the gun from the officer.

Police found Liang to be in possession of powder drugs and several ID cards and officers detained two other suspects after the incident. The case is still under investigation, the report said.
