China, Kyrgyzstan to deepen security cooperation

BISHKEK - China and Kyrgyzstan agreed on Tuesday to promote regional peace and security via closer cooperation on law enforcement and security.

When meeting Kyrgyz interim President Roza Otunbayeva here Tuesday, visiting Chinese State Councilor Meng Jianzhu said China would like to work with Kyrgyzstan to deepen law enforcement and security cooperation for peace and security of the two nations and the region.

China respected Kyrgyzstan's rights to choose its own path of development and supported its efforts to maintain domestic stability and spur economic recovery, said Meng, who is also China's public security minister.

Otunbayeva said her country had an urgent need to draw on China's experience in law enforcement and security sector considering the complicated regional and international transformations.

She said Kyrgyzstan would join China in maintaining regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Also on Tuesday, Meng met Kyrgyz Vice Prime Minister Shamil Atakhanov, State Committee for National Security Chairman Keneshbek Dushebaev and Minister of Internal Affairs Zarylbek Rusaliev.

During their talks, Kyrgyzstan pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation with China on combating terrorism, drug trafficking and transnational organized crimes. The two sides also signed cooperation agreements on security and other fields.
