HARBIN - Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu has urged governments of major grain production provinces to give full support to spring farming to guarantee a good harvest for this year's grain production.

Hui visited Heilongjiang, Shandong provinces and Inner Mongolia autonomous region, all large grain production bases, from April 17-20.

"An ample grain supply is extremely important for managing inflation expectations and supporting steady growth in the national economy," said Hui in Heilongjiang.

He called on local authorities and government bodies to fully implement policies favorable for agricultural production, expand the acreage of planting, promote agricultural technology services, and stabilize the prices of seeds, fertilizer, pesticides and diesel.

China's grain output rose 2.9 percent last year to 546.41 million tonnes, marking the seventh consecutive year of growth. The country aims to keep its 2011 grain production over 500 million tonnes.
