Highway bridge collapses in Xinjiang, no casualties reported

URUMQI - A bridge on National Highway 314 collapsed early on Tuesday in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, according to witnesses at the scene.

The bridge, which spanned a local river in the suburbs of Korla city, collapsed at 5:30 am, the witnesses said.

Being alerted of the accident, concerned departments immediately launched rescue operation.

There were no reports of any casualties so far.

National Highway 314, with a length of 1,948 kilometers, starts from Urumqi, regional capital of Xinjiang, zigzags westwardly along the southern foot of Mount Tianshan and ends at Kunjirap on China's border with Pakistan.
