BEIJING - China is discussing to lift its five-year goal for solar photovoltaic (PV) industry capacity from five gigawatts (GW) to 10 GW, a National Energy Administration (NEA) official told Xinhua Wednesday.

Shi Lishan, deputy director of the renewable energy department at the NEA, confirmed a media report on the PV capacity adjustment discussion.

The revision is very likely to be approved although it is still under discussion, given the backdrop of Japan's nuclear crisis, according to the Wednesday issue of the China Securities Journal, citing unnamed sources.

China may fine tune its nuclear power development plan as the nuclear leak crisis in Japan has triggered security concerns, said the journal.

China had planned to set its nuclear capacity target for 2020 at 86 GW, accounting for about 4 percent of the country's energy consumption, it said.

China is the largest PV producer in the world. Its PV production hit about 4000MW last year, with majority of products sold overseas.
