Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and other issues of common concern.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also spoke with Kim earlier in the day. The visit marked Kim's first trip to China since taking office last fall.

According to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu, the two foreign ministers spoke positively of the current China-ROK relations and agreed to boost bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various areas. They also vowed to promote further growth of their strategic and cooperative partnership.

They also exchanged opinions on issues regarding the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, as well as the early resumption of the six-party talks, Jiang said at a press briefing held on Tuesday afternoon.

Seoul and Washington have been seeking to persuade the United Nations Security Council to condemn the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s uranium enrichment program, which they say has breached Pyongyang's international obligations and alleged commitment to denuclearization.

China believed the issue should be solved within the framework of the six-party talks, said the spokeswoman, adding that a settlement should alleviate tension on the Korean Peninsula and aid in the denuclearization process.

"The international community is greatly concerned over DPRK's uranium enrichment issue," Jiang said, adding that the issue underscores the urgency of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

She urged concerned parties to work to create opportunities for the resumption of the six-party talks at an early date and seek a solution that will be beneficial to all parties involved.
