Yao said at a regular news briefing that economic and trade relations between China and Japan are very close, as Japan is China's third largest trade partner, the largest source of imports and the fifth largest destination of exports by the end of 2010.

The GDP of Japan's northeastern areas affected by the earthquake accounts for around 8 percent of the total GDP of Japan, said Yao.
