BEIJING - Chinese President Hu Jintao Sunday called on members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to learn from Yang Shanzhou, a late veteran Party official who made selfless contributions to the public's interest.
Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said in a statement that all CPC members, especially the officials, should learn from Yang and try hard to meet the needs of the people.

Following retirement, and joined by his family and local residents, Yang spent more than 20 years cultivating a tree farm which eventually had a forest coverage reaching 3,733 hectares. In April 2009 Yang donated the tree farm to the government.
Yang died of illness in October 2010.
Also, state and Party leaders Li Changchun and Xi Jinping gave instructions to ask the Party officials to look up to Yang as a model.
The Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee had decided to award Yang as a countrywide outstanding member of the CPC.
Li Yuanchao, the head of the department, said Sunday at an opening ceremony of the official training program in Nanchang, capital city of East China's Jiangxi province, that the officials who have retired from their posts should also learn from Yang.
This year will see the elections for Party Committee members at provincial, city, county and township levels. Li hoped those retired officials would have a light heart and continue to keep up their moral pursuits as Party members and abide by a clean work style.
